UBC Gearbox is Ready for the 2026-2027 School Year!!!

As the school year approaches, we made the journey from Langford to the University of British Columbia (UBC) to prepare all the gear for the start of a new academic year! With the newly formed gear box taking shape in a well-established and accessible space, RAD Recreation Adapted Society is continuing to grow across the province of BC. Among the items available for rent at UBC are some of the most popular pieces of adaptive equipment. For instance, the hippocampe, which is an all-terrain wheelchair designed to provide access to beaches and trails, offers individuals with mobility challenges the chance to explore nature like never before. The wheels allow the user to push themselves so they are not reliant on others. This is a great chair to check out nearby beaches like Spanish Banks. The Alinker is a unique walking bike that allows users to sit upright while propelling themselves forward with their legs. This promotes independence and mobility in a fun and engaging way. Additionally, we have the VanRaam, a specialized walking push bicycle that can be customized to suit various needs and preferences. Similar to the Alinker, it has adjustments, can collapse, but requires more balance with the two wheel design. The top end Excelerator XLT, known for its stability and performance, is another fantastic option available for rent, ensuring that users can enjoy a smooth and enjoyable ride. It is a great handcycle that is approachable for many first timers and seasoned pros. There are new arrangements in the space boosting productivity, service of gear, storage, and overall cleanliness.

As we gear up for the new school year, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. The expansion of adaptive recreation across BC will not only provide more opportunities for physical activity but also foster a sense of community and belonging among participants. We look forward to seeing how this initiative will positively impact lives and create lasting memories for everyone involved.
